Parnell Beacon
The Norfolk Island pines have huge significance for Parnell. It was Bishop Selwyn who first spotted them on Norfolk Island when he sailed around his Melanesian "patch". He was the first person to bring the tree/seeds to Auckland.
This tree was one of the first navigational tools for boats and sea planes into Mechanics Bay.
