Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to pay to get access to the Internet?
No, internet access on Parnell Wireless is provided free by Parnell Mainstreet, the association of Parnell Road businesses.

Q: I have failed to validate my account within 30 minutes.
If you failed to validate your temporary account, based on the email we sent you, within 30 minutes, your Parnell Wireless session would have been terminated.

You'll now need to create a new account – be sure to validate it within the allowed time! If you need us to resend you the validation email, please click here.

Q: What steps are required in order to create and validate a new account?
Here is an overview of the steps:

1. Pick a username, enter your email address, and enter the password you would like. An email will be sent to you with a link you can click to validate your account.

2. Once the account is created, you need Internet access in order to check your email and click the validation link. In order to get temporary access to the Internet during your validation period, visit any URL (for example www.google.com ) to get the login page again.

3. Enter your login information. You will be given access for around 30 minutes, plenty of time to check your email and click on the link.

4. Once that last step is done, you will have full free Internet access!

Q: Where and when is the network available?
The Parnell Wireless network should be available in most outside areas on Parnell Road (from St Stephens Ave to Parnell Rise) and in many buildings, however the nature of wireless networks means that it may be unavailable in some buildings. The signal strength should be best nearer windows facing Parnell Road . It is currently available 24/7.

Q: I can't get a connection from a Parnell Road location - what's up?
At launch, Parnell Wireless will be operational along Parnell Road, between St Stephens Avenue and Heather Street. The nature of wireless networks means that signal strength may vary in certain buildings (see Where and when is the network available? above).

If you own a business on Parnell Road and would like to optimise reception of Parnell Wireless on your premises, it is fairly cheap to install a wireless router which would extend the coverage of the service into your building. For queries, please contact Bunker Media.

Q: What about security?
Parnell Wireless is an unencrypted wireless network; as such, it's possible that third parties could observe your activity. We suggest that you do not use the service for any very sensitive business. If you're planning on using online commerce or banking services, ensure that you have a secure (HTTPS) connection before you pass on sensitive information!

Q: What about privacy?
As mentioned above, Parnell Wireless is an unencrypted network. It is possible that your usage could be observed by third parties.

Parnell Mainstreet and the operators of Parnell Wireless will not share any information about you or your usage with any third party.

However:
- we may monitor usage as part of our ongoing network management. (Any information gathered in this process will remain strictly private.)
- we may email you with news about Parnell Wireless from time to time.
