Every week La Cigale hosts a French style Farmers Market at our Parnell  store which has recently expanded, the market is now held in the rear of the warehouse and the carpark our warehouse.

The emphasis is on seasonal fruit and vegetables (organic or spray free whenever possible), artisinale bread, cheese, confectioneries, oils, spices and homemade preserves and confiseries. You can buy all the supplies you want for a delicious lunch or dinner - freshly made Paella, hot rotisserie chickens, smoked sausages, salmon and lots more!

Parnell Trust: New Learning & Leisure Programme
Classes run July - December at Jubilee Building, 545 Parnell Road

Inspiring creative classes begin this term with the introduction of four new classes at the Parnell Community Centre.

Egg tempera: A two-day weekend workshop to teach the art of making your own paints with egg yolk, as used by the early renaissance painters.
Drawing with words: A six-week workshop will guide you to create a piece of art from your favourite words, quotes, poems or notes.
Mukimono: Luis Cabrera, a local chef, will share the techniques of this traditional Japanese art of fruit and vegetable carving and decoration.
Berlin : Biography of a City: The arts and culture of Berlin are explored in this five-week programme.

Matariki Celebration at the Parnell Farmers Market
11 July, Saturday 8am to 12noon
Matariki is an important time for festivity, son and dance, a time to celebrate the completion of one cycle of harvest and the beginnings of the next cycle.

Music, demonstrations, face painting and more. Come and celebrate with us and buy your fresh and seasonal produce for the week. Luis Cabrera will demonstrate decorative vegetable carving with the inspiration of Matariki.

 

The Film Archive: Footage of early Parnell
Tuesday, 14 July, 7pm Titoki Room, Parnell Community Trust building, Parnell Road

A representative from The Film Archive will show footage of images of Parnell/early Auckland dating from the 1920s. There will be a number of “shorts” taken by individuals and organisations which show a way of life/old buildings that have changed forever. It will be fascinating to finally see these long forgotten films. David Jernigan is an upcoming young organist who is a former postgraduate student at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music in the USA.

This joint venture between two well known private schools will undoubtedly be a successful concert.  Be early to ensure a seat.
