Art at Heard Park
Possibilities being explored with Council

Parnell Inc has approached Auckland City Council's Arts team for advice on bringing exciting sculptures to Heard Park . We'd like to explore the potential of having sculptures on a temporary basis, so that there would be continuing interest in what's on show at this central Parnell location.

Exploration of the possibilities are likely to take some time - first there needs to be discussion with Council's Parks people for their approval, then a proposal needs to be developed to include all aspects of this initiative, which would be reviewed by Council's Advisory Panel for Public Art.

The initiative is another way of reinforcing Parnell's position as Auckland 's Creative Quarter.

PS: Does anyone know anything about the sculptural wall at the back of Heard Park behind the swing set. We'd like to see what it looked like when it was installed in 1991 by artist Hiro C and a team of artisans.

Curbing crime in Parnell
Help police patrol more effectively with Trespass Notices

Parnell Inc. would like to help police better serve Parnell and enforce the Parnell Alcohol Ban by allowing them official permission to evict people from private property within the Parnell Alcohol Ban area.

Currently police do not have legitimate authority to enter private property and evict people who may be drinking there in breach of the ban. Within the Parnell business area there are many spaces that the public can freely access at all hours of the day. These include driveways, car parking areas, walkways and access ways between buildings - all off public footpaths and roads. You may have had incidents of drinking and other nuisance-related behaviours on your property in the past.

Property owners: If you would like give police authority to act on behalf of the lawful occupier of the property ( for the purposes of Section 56 of the Crimes Act 1961 and the provisions of the Trespass Act 1980) please complete this AUTHORITY TO ACT form. This is a blanket trespass notice, for which you will need to return one copy to Parnell Inc (which will be forwarded to the police) and make one copy for yourself as the owner/occupier.

Business owners: An email with this information was sent out some weeks ago to property owners, but if you are interested in following up on this, (and in case our database is inaccurate) please be sure to pass this information onto the owner of your business's property.

Even if your property falls outside the alcohol ban area, you may still wish to complete a trespass form to allow police to evict suspicious persons from your property. Parnell Inc. believes that by issuing this blanket trespass, you will allowing police to better safeguard your Parnell property .

Smash & grab warning
Last week a visitor to Parnell had her handbag stolen from her passenger seat while she was briefly parked on Gibraltar Cres beside the Post Office. Please never leave anything as tempting as a handbag, laptop or GPS in view when you park, even at busy locations - it takes only seconds for a fearless thief to break into your car and make off with your valuables.
