2009 Parnell Inc AGM: Tuesday 8 Sept.
Final RSVP request!
Parnell Inc is having its AGM next Tuesday. If you're planning on coming, please let us know. (You'll risk missing out on wine and nibbles if we under-cater!)
Included on the agenda is the resolution to change from being a Mainstreet to becoming a Business Improvement District or BID. This has a slightly different and more rigorous policy, as defined by Auckland City Council. A number of other areas including Newmarket and Remuera have become BIDs, while others are seeking to do so this year.
We'll also be re-presenting the evolution and rationale for Parnell's new branding, for members who weren't at the brand launch.
For information on the forthcoming AGM, members are invited to read Auckland City Council's BID policy and a draft constitution see Parnell Inc.'s AGM page on www.parnell.net.nz.
If you're planning on coming to our AGM, please RSVP:
Please let us know if you intend to attend the AGM, by RSVPing toinfo@parnell.net.nz or phoning 379 0606.

Parnell window stickers are coming
They are going to look fantastic!
Our apologies to the Parnell retailers who are waiting for the very colourful new Parnell graphics for their shop windows. Due to the great response, and the high number of variations requested, it's taken us longer than we anticipated to source and test samples. However, final artwork is being signed off on Monday, decals will be ready by the end of the week and then we'll be going door to door placing these exactly where they're wanted - and they look fantastic!
If you ordered a window sticker, we'll be contacting you soon to make a time to put yours on your window. In the meantime, have a think about exactly they will go on your windows to save us time when we get to you! Thanks for yor patience

Tarnya Mills leaves Parnell after +9 years
But she'll always be a Parnell person
After nine and a half years in Parnell, Tarnya Mills (pictured at right) has sold her Grandeur Hair & Makeup salon at 375 Parnell Road . Following her passion, Tarnya has launched a film and TV events company from new premises she's bought on College Hill in Ponsonby. Koreen Morrell (pictured at left), who has worked with Tarnya at Grandeur, is the proud new owner of the salon.
A well known personality in Parnell, Tarnya was on Parnell Mainstreet's committee for a year and last year was the driving force behind the Fashion that Stops Traffic show - organising a bevy of models to parade fashion from Parnell boutiques at the Parnell Road - St Stephens Ave crossings at rush hour! Tarnya assures us that her enthusiasm and support for Parnell will long continue.

New Council policy for street collections
Includes giving away goods and soliciting
Auckland City Council is currently reviewing its street trading policy for "The giving away of goods, to advertise any product,
service or entertainment or the soliciting or collection
of any subscription or donation in a public place."
This is a policy of interest to many, as it seeks to control the people who come into shopping centres collecting for charities, giving away products or intercepting shoppers to sign them up for whatever. All these activities require Council approval and a license. While major charities are likely to comply already, many smaller charities (and fake collectors) will not be compliant and can therefore be moved on.
Street collectors can have a major impact on retail, as potential shoppers often go out of their way to avoid collectors. Unlicenced operators can be asked to leave an area by Council officers or police.
The terms of a licence include a specified date, time, location of activity and number of people involved. Also that collectors, organisations or groups must comply with any reasonable request from nearby businesses, and pedestrians must not be harassed. (A full set of terms and conditions can be viewed on page 13 of the draft proposal)
Mainstreet managers have requested that Council consult with us about applications for these activities in our areas and that we get notified of any licenses granted.
Council encourages you to review the draft policy and then have your say via an online feedback form located here. Your feedback must be in by 5pm, Wednesday, 23 September 2009.
A note about handing out pamphlets about your business Touting for business on the street is never permitted - unless you are operating from private property (eg at the border of your premises and the public footpath).
