New street planters and seating approved!
Funded via Hobson Community Board
The Parnell Road shopping area is to get much-needed street seating, thanks to SLIPs (Small Local Improvement Project) funding awarded by Hobson Community Board, following an application made by Parnell Inc. The new bench seats, to be located adjacent to upgraded planters will be a wonderful addition to the streetscape, providing good resting and meeting spots for locals and visitors.
The new planters will provide deeper soil, with a 400cm high basalt boxing, and a 200cm wide light grey granite capping, that will allow comfortable seating. An elegant park bench will be situated close to each new planter.
Funding has been approved for four of the eight locations originally proposed and work is expected to begin on these in the first quarter of the new year.
The four planters to be upgraded along Parnell Road are:
1. Outside The Cupboard at St Stephens Ave
2. Outside Accent on Wine - a new planter - at cnr Birdwood Cres
3. Outside Galtons at upper Gibraltar Cres
4. Outside Passion for Paper at lower Gibraltar Cres
Parnell Inc will apply to the next round of SLIPs funding to upgrade remaining planters.

Beware of walk-in thieves after hours!
Alert your building cleaners to this risk
There are ongoing reports of people going into office buildings looking for opportunities to steal. A recent case also highlights the need for vigilance outside normal office hours, when cleaners may leave doors open as they work:
Last weekend a Bath Street business had a man walk into their office on Saturday, while the cleaners were working in the back. The thief (described as Maori, 6' 2", aged +35, well built, diamond stud in his left ear and wearing a red t-shirt and white shorts) went through a few rooms and desks and draws before he was seen.
We'd advise you to brief any cleaning staff to secure your property while they work, and not leave external doors open.

The Seven Seas Mariner comes to Auckland on Wednesday 2nd. This 4.5 star ship carries up to 752 passengers who are likely to be wealthy Americans aged 40 - 60. The ship will have a partial exchange of passengers: between 200 - 250 passengers are expected to depart the cruise, and a similar number will join. (Put your welcome posters up on Monday 30th Nov for people gathering in Auckland to get on the cruise, and leave them up until Saturday for those who are having a great time in Auckland afterwards!)
Sun Princess returns on Sunday 6th - one of many visits over this season. She carries up to 2250 passengers, most of whom are Brits and Americans. They are in transit, so day-tripping only.
Parnell businesses can stay updated by downloading Parnell Inc's detailed Auckland Cruise Ship Schedule, beautifully compiled by our intern Johanna. It includes a little background info to let retailers know who they can expect to see about Parnell!
We encourage retailers to display "Welcome posters" in your shop windows to welcome our cruise ship visitors. Please use the attached form to order your posters.
