Dress your store for Christmas success
Have fun and be flamboyant!

Parnell Inc brought visual merchandising consultant, Nicolle Aston of Furore, into Parnell early this week to bring fresh eyes and new ideas to retailers.

Nicki Maud, from Browse, had 20 minutes with Nicolle and wrote:
"It was so nice to get reinforcement on what we are doing well, and some fantastic tips for how to improve our merchandising. I'm feeling hugely inspired!" We hope everyone who had time with Nicolle was similarly inspired to take a new look at their store's presentation.

After walking about Parnell, Nicolle's main concern was the overall lack of excitement regarding Christmas - many shops have taken an 'understated' approach to Christmas decorations, and perhaps the fear of going 'over the top' or doing something others might view as 'tacky' has led to too much restraint.

"Christmas is a time of cheer, abundance and self expression, whether it's decorating the tree or giving gifts to the people we love. It's a time for joy and retailers do need to get behind the spirit of Christmas in a way that encourages shoppers to feel generous and abundant themselves."

"Christmas need not be ordinary. There are dozens of untraditional ways to approach Christmas decor. Christmas is a time for things that twinkle, glisten, reflect - Christmas decorations come in purples, blues, turquoises, pink, as well as the traditional colours. Trees need not only house baubles and tinsel, but retailers can tie their product onto trees and wreaths and garlands as well. They are really only limited by their imagination."

Improvements can also be made instore: "Obviously it's an important time of the year for increased sales and too many opportunities are being lost by not anticipating shoppers needs. People are shopping for solutions at this time of the year. They want ideas and inspiration, and they want retailers to save them time and effort. More retailers could be grouping product in ways that provide immediate gift ideas."

Shoppers need to feel confidence that their choices and purchases are the right ones in terms of gift giving. Various price points need to be considered to cover all the bases. It's also a great time to promote gift vouchers (I didn't see anyone doing this,) and to use the art of adjoining product for increased sales.

Nicolle is returning to Parnell on Monday to judge windows for the Christmas Spirit Best Shop Window Prize - for the Parnell Road retailer with the best Christmas window display. We will be judging the windows on the following attributes: uniqueness, Christmas spirit, style and creativity!

Leave your shopping to the last minute!
Late night shopping along Parnell Road + Foundation Bldg

We know people leave Christmas shopping until the last minute - so this year Parnell Inc is helping retailers make the most of that frantic last week before Christmas!

This Christmas, we're turning last-minute shopping into a treat for Parnell shoppers (and diners too!) with evening music and festivities along Parnell Road from 5-7pm to make last minute Christmas shopping fun.

Be sure to return to Parnell on Monday 21, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 December. Shops along Parnell Road and in The Foundation Building (Alfresco, Cavit & Co, Corso de Fiori) will be open until 7pm.

We've lined up a very special Santa, angels offering Christmas mince tarts, musicians and singers to spread Xmas cheer

Santa helps families become debt free faster
Parnell's John Bishop has a new role

John Bishop III, long-term Parnell resident and familiar presence about Parnell Road, will be our not-so-secret Santa for Parnell's “Leave it to the last minute” late night Christmas shopping promotion. Parnell Inc is thrilled that John, a former chair of Parnell Mainstreet, is to again show his fantastic Parnell spirit by donning a Santa suit and giving out treats on Monday 21 - Wednesday 23.

John has recently set up an office in Parnell for New Zealand Home Loans – a home loan provider that has helped him build his own portfolio of 11 rental homes in just 10 years.

Wholly New Zealand-owned and operated, the secret of New Zealand Home Loans’ success is the ongoing effort to help clients reduce their debt as quickly as possible.  "The best investment that people can make is to reduce their debt. When you reduce debt you effectively earn the same rate that you were paying on the debt. It’s a great rate of return and there’s no risk in paying off your own home," says John.

John maintains, “It’s not rocket science.  We are about putting people in charge of their own financial destiny with a fool-proof system that works and is easy to understand.  We show our clients how to make best use of their income, control their debt and show them options for the future.”

This is made possible through the company’s online Debt Management System, “debtnav” which allows you to set and review your financial goals and budget and track your progress on a daily basis.  Using the system can save thousands of dollars in interest costs and allows you to pay your home loan off years earlier.

Don’t miss the opportunity to investigate a real money-saving alternative.  John Bishop can be contacted at his new dedicated Auckland office in Parnell, 13 Cheshire Street, Ph 377 8894, www.nzhomeloans.co.nz.

Improved parking for upper Parnell Road
Parking solutions meet business needs

With repairs to The Ridge building nearing completion (to sighs of relief all around), scaffolding was removed recently from outside the building, freeing up parking from construction-related activity.

Ably aided by Hobson Community Board's transport representative, Tim Woolfield and Parnell Inc.'s HCB representative Hinu te Hau, Council has agreed to implement the following changes to parking in this area, to benefit businesses and customers:

- A P15 zone at the upper end of Parnell Road, to meet the needs of customers to Hilltop Superette, Top Cuts and Parnell Laundry, This is in line with parking times allowed outside dairies and community convenience stores across the city.
- Loading zone confirmed at its current location at London Salon
- Bus Stop confirmed at its current location at Pan Asia - Travelair
- Pay & Display parking for outside The Ridge shops
- the Taxi rank at upper Birdwood Cres will be replaced with P30 parking.
