A new pathway in Pukekawa / Auckland Domain creates a direct route through to Parnell Train Station.
A combination of newly paved path and fresh wooden boardwalks connects up with the pre-existing “Lovers Walk” and also continues on past the station to Carlaw Park Student Village, improving access to Auckland University students.
Waitematā Local Board chair and Pukekawa / Auckland Domain Committee member Genevieve Sage says: “This is a great new path that simplifies the journey for students and commuters who are coming through the park. It also gives another option for walkers who regularly take a stroll in the Domain, as well as visitors to the museum.”

Waitematā Local Board contributed around $575,000 towards the shared pathway through its Local Board Transport Capital Fund as part of the Greenways Plan. The project aligned with priorities identified in the board’s previous Local Board Plan.
Auckland’s Greenways Plans have the long-term aim of greatly improving walking, cycling and ecological connections across the region.
“Pukekawa / Auckland Domain is already an award-winning park, and the completion of this path allows better connections for those using active modes of transport,” says Area Operations Manager Martin Wong.
We hope that this projects along with other recent additions to the greenways network will encourage people to explore their local parks and neighbourhoods by foot or on two wheels.
Among the positive outcomes for the area, the Greenways Plan aims to benefit the environment by creating greater opportunities for walking, cycling and connections to public transport, making people less reliant on fossil fuel. The improved opportunities for activity and fitness also have health benefits to locals.
