The Auckland Lantern Festival is relocating to the Domain in 2016. As New Zealand’s largest Chinese festival, The Lantern Festival will be held in Auckland Domain 18-21 February.
You are invited to view the magical enchantment of more than 800 handmade Chinese lanterns that celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Monkey.
With a Lantern-only night on Thursday 18 February, 7-10.30pm, this free event will showcase traditional and contemporary Chinese culture, including roaming and main-stage performers from New Zealand and China, martial arts displays, arts and craft stalls, food stalls showcasing delicious, authentic Chinese cuisine and a fireworks finale.
Presented by ATEED and the Asia New Zealand Foundation the Auckland Lantern Festival is a highlight on the Chinese New Year calendar.
As a neighbour to Parnell, the Domain is just a 10 minute walk away, or less if catching the LINK bus. Check out the Monkey Exhibition in Parnell and look for the 5 hidden monkeys in the Find a Lantern Monkey competition before heading up to the Lantern Festival.
