Our beloved museum’s doors may be closed to the public for physical visits until level 2, but that doesn’t stop us from seeing what’s inside from the comfort of our couch.
There is such a variety of things to see, do, explore, and while away the time. Click into Auckland Museum at Home for an online explore of your Museum, and find out what’s new.
TREASURES AND TALES ONLINE: DINO DISCOVERY
Take a trip millions of years back in time to the age of dinosaurs and sea monsters. Find out about some of the Museum’s most fascinating pre-historic objects, plus learn about why dinosaurs and sea monsters aren’t the same! Check out their hugely popular Dino Discovery program direct to your bubbles, online here.
Your young ones will be entertained and delighted with this fun video, led by the museum’s inspiring learning team.
Recommended for ages 5-12 yrs.
TREASURES AND TALES ONLINE: VOLCANOES
Tāmaki Makaurau was built on a field of around 53 volcanoes. But that doesn’t mean you’re likely to find magma in your garden anytime soon – with the exception of Rangitoto, Auckland’s volcanoes are currently dormant. However, an eruption will happen one day.
There is a playlist full of other videos on offer to watch on the Museum’s things to watch page, so be sure to check them out too.
The learning team will be back live every Thursday at 4pm, with another session, so be sure to like them on Facebook to make sure you don’t miss out.
Time for some fresh air? Why not head out to the garden, and get to know some of the other inhabitants of your bubble! The Museum’s Natural Sciences team has created a game of Backyard Bingo, starring the flora and fauna that share your garden. What creatures will you discover?
It’s probably also a good idea to leave some of the bugs or slugs you do find outside where they belong – no one wants to find a weta in their bed!
WHICH OF THE MUSEUM ANIMALS ARE YOU?
Are you a cave-dwelling insect with powerful legs, or a large-eared nomad with a very long nose? Perhaps you’re an apex predator with a very lovely name or a giant bird with three funny toes?
The only way to find out is to take their super fun quiz!
PUZZLES, PUZZLES, PUZZLES:
Do you just love jigsaws? So do the guys at Auckland Museum!
There are now over two dozen puzzles to choose from, so get puzzling here and remember, you can change the difficulty for each puzzle.
Have fun exploring!
