Parnell celebrates Chinese New Year in Parnell this February for the very first time.
From our visit in December and previous emails, you will be well aware of the focus on celebrating the Chinese Zodiac animal – the Year of the Monkey in 2016.
Art galleries and some retail stores are exhibiting 30 life-sized monkey sculptures, which will be auctioned for The Starship Foundation in March.
Retail and hospitality outlets are invited to join in the monkey madness. We are asking you to get involved with some ‘monkey mischief’ by decorating your window with monkeys, selling monkey-themed offerings, displaying monkeys in your business, having monkey-themed menu items etc.
We will constantly update this with more ideas, tips and resources.
There will be a competition for the best window display!
This is a unique signature event for Parnell that we expect to hold each year (every year a different Chinese Zodiac animal is celebrated) and a fabulous opportunity for Parnell to showcase how we celebrate the cultural diversity of our Auckland communities, especially the Chinese community.
