ARTIS Gallery presents a selection of paintings and sculptures from Michael Smither’s Harmonic Series, dating from the early 80s to 2015.
Also a talented musician and composer, it was during the late 70s that Smither revived his interest in musical composition and continued to pursue the relationship between sounds and colours.
Smither developed his own Harmonic Chart in 1982 and continued to use this as reference for his works over the following three decades. Many of these paintings and sculptures can be played as a musical score – translating colour into sound.
