Daphne and Apollo
26 August—8 September
ARTIS Gallery is delighted to present Daphne and Apollo, a new exhibition of paintings by Nicky Foreman. Inspired by myth, transformation, and the natural world, Foreman draws upon stories such as Bernini’s Daphne and Apollo and Correggio’s Jupiter and Io, where nature becomes a place of refuge and metamorphosis. In this body of work, she explores beauty in both the ornate and the overlooked, bringing together fragments of experience through her distinctive use of tile and multi-panel formats.
Foreman’s practice reflects a dialogue between order and chaos, repetition and variation, stillness and energy. Influences from artists including Cy Twombly, Odilon Redon, and Cezanne, as well as the interlocking forms of Baroque architecture, resonate throughout her work. With a painterly attention to detail—particularly her fascination with lichen—Foreman invites viewers to contemplate the subtle rhythms and endless variations of the natural world.
