Peter Collis California Waterfall: November 2020
Acclaimed New Zealand ceramicist Peter Collis has worked with clay nearly all of his life. The main focus of his work is the exploration of shape and surface.
After a recent stint living abroad in the USA, Peter Collis found new inspirations and avenues in his ceramic practise. These musings manifest in the artist’s new series California Waterfall.
The title refers to that feeling one gets from standing next to a waterfall, whereby the ionisation of the water gives you a ‘buzz’. As the artist describes “That was the feeling I had when living in LA and this work is a reference to that. The colours, the atmosphere and the buzz.”
