Quo Vadis

Through Tim Jones’ exhibition of new works, we’re invited to engage with a Latin phrase that has recently resonated with the artist deeply – ‘Quo Vardis’, meaning ‘Where are you going?’.
For Jones, the question exudes beauty and poignancy—offering introspection and insight into his next steps in the studio. While maintaining his affinity with the ocean, channelling the sea’s azure hues into his abstract works, for this latest body of paintings Jones has also found inspiration in the forests and bushland that he has been exploring. Drawing on neutral earthen hues and referencing the geological landscape, foliage, and natural textures, Jones has immersed himself in the movement of the land, reflected within a focus on expressive and painterly mark-making.
This is a beautiful and poignant question we can ask ourselves periodically, both artistically and in life. When pondered introspectively it can give great insight and guide our next steps.
