Muriwai Soaring 5 August – 30 September 2021
Muriwai Beach comes to Parnell with a new contemporary art exhibition titled “Muriwai Soaring”. Known for its sweeping black sand beach, excellent surf, and spectacular cliff-top gannet colony, this spot is also home to a group of well-known (many award-winning), diverse, and highly gifted artists.
Being mesmerised watching gannets, tuis, pīwakawaka (fantails), kererū and other birds soaring in the sky evoking feelings of freedom, movement and uplifing joy are reflected in the Muriwai Soaring exhibition at the gallery in The Fantail House, 237 Parnell Road, Parnell Village.
Opening night is Thursday 5 August 5.30 – 7.30pm and everyone is welcome. Come soar with them.
Nine artists from the Muriwai Arts Open Studio collective are exhibiting: Gaylene Earl, Joss Hong, Judy Stokes, Karuna Douglas, Laetitia Decan, Liz Smith, Martin Bailey, Pat Henley and Todd Douglas. Media include ceramics, embroidery, jewellery, painting, photography and prints.
Inspired by living at Muriwai, this passionate group of artists showcase diverse ideas and perceptions – exploring realism, fantasy, fun, light, texture and colour. The exhibition is on from the 5th August – 30 September. Open 7 days a week 10am – 5pm. We would love to see you there.
