Parnell is a wonderful place to live and work! But like many communities around the world we’ve got the stress, disruption and economic fallout from Covid -19 and we’re seeing climate change impacts on the news and in our empty reservoirs, all whilst getting upset with the amount of food waste (well some of us)!
Now could be a really good time to think about how we build our community for living well, becoming more resilient and taking care of the Parnell we love – together. What might activate this work?
From time to time there have been suggestions for a Community Garden or Urban Farm in Parnell. This topic was also raised during the development of the Parnell Plan with suggested locations. This is an interesting idea and raises all sorts of questions and other good thoughts about who is involved? where could it go? how large or small should it be, how many people may want to eat this food? and what are the other linked opportunities that could help strengthen our community and ensure urban work and living in the 21st century is a positive experience?
There are other examples of community gardens in and around the city, with different formats and sizes and we would like to know what the Parnell community is looking for.
The Parnell Business Association would like to help facilitate this conversation on behalf of interested parties. We would like to hear from local businesses and residents keen to form a core working team to really understand the issues around this opportunity and then explore the potential for our community to live and work well.
