PLACES OF WORSHIP

Parnell is blessed with some of the most beautifully ornate and oldest churches in New Zealand. St John the Baptist, is in-fact the oldest surviving Catholic Church in the Auckland Diocese and one of the oldest in New Zealand. Being founded by the first Bishop of Auckland, Jean Baptiste Francois Pompallier, and formally instituted by his Lordship on Sunday 12th of May 1861.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral, which is an Anglican church and is the seat of the Bishop of Auckland – The Right Reverend Ross Bay. is also a well-known landmark in Auckland and is a place where diverse people come to celebrate, find solace, for peace and quiet, to connect with others, to serve and be served, to be entertained, and to learn. In addition to being a place of worship, Holy Trinity Cathedral is a significant venue for the performing arts within the city of Auckland with a number of events throughout the year.
