Congratulations to Parnell architecture and design practice Jasmax, who received two prestigious prizes at the NZ Interior Awards on Thursday 23rd July.
The NZ Interior Awards celebrate the most innovative and compelling interior and spatial design projects in Aotearoa. Developed in response to strong industry demand, the NZ Interior Awards is an independent, industry-led programme celebrating the projects shaping our built environment.
Jasmax received two awards for their work on the BNZ Theatre in Hamilton: The Civic Award and the Premier Award.
The Civic Award celebrates public and cultural spaces, while the Premier Award is presented to the most outstanding project across all categories.
Premier Award
This long-awaited new civic space for Kirikiriroa Hamilton has proved transformative in answering the needs of its community and the wider region, offering a truly world-class performing arts venue created in collaboration with a large stakeholder group.
A stunning example of theatre and culture working together, the exceptional attention to detail, sculptural cantilevered stair and magnificent 1300-seat theatre coupled with a thoughtful re-engagement with the awa beyond have resulted in an internationally
significant venue for Aotearoa New Zealand.
Civic Award
This theatre represents a step change in the cultural life of Kirikiriroa Hamilton. It is a clear signal about the intention of the city to connect more deeply with the magnificent Waikato river through a very sophisticated design of outstanding quality.
Its immersive interior draws inspiration from the site’s layered history, finding moments of luscious richness and prudent restraint as it demonstrates the level of skill required to realise civic buildings that both inspire and perform to a world-class technical standard.
Congratulations Jasmax on these prestigious awards!
