Hayley King, a.k.a. FLOX, has always maintained a philosophy of “making art for the people” and making her art accessible which saw FLOX take her own artistic lane by avoiding the traditional artist/gallery relationship. Today, FLOX is one of Aotearoa’s most recognised artists, spreading her ever expanding wings both locally and internationally with mural projects, commissions, product lines, brand collaborations, and workshops. We are beyond excited to have her artwork lit up in Heard Park this Christmas for ‘Beacons of Light’.
FLOX shared that her main focus for the installation was colour and light. As the artworks would displayed on a light box, her main objective was to really capture the festive season by incorporating bright and cheerful components and hues.
FLOX’s designs all started as individually stenciled and hand painted artworks, which were then brought into Photoshop to create the overall compositions.
The designs all feature NZ native birds and botanicals, and the decorative nature of the artworks are akin to wrapping paper—suitable for this time of year!
FLOX’s artwork will be on display at Heard Park until 26 November.
