Auckland Council and Auckland Transport have jointly drafted a new bylaw which will come into effect on the 1st October 2015.
They say the new signage bylaw seeks to ensure signage does not compromise vehicular or pedestrian safety, and that groups, individuals and businesses still have the opportunity to use public spaces to promote their service, product, goods or event.
The bylaw includes general requirements for all signage (except election signs), and has further requirements for particular types of signage including portable signage, posters, event signage and real estate signage. It has been developed to work alongside the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan.
While we understand the need for bylaws, we object to a ‘one size fits all’ approach and would hope its application is within a ‘contextual’ framework.
We are expecting further detailed clarification, but if you need help understanding if your business complies, please feel free to contact our office.
