Oh Calcutta is firmly established as one of New Zealand’s foremost restaurants for North Indian cuisine. Using only the best ingredients, fresh herbs and spices available you will experience authentic Indian cuisine the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
Fire, Water, Air & Earth – The elements create a force of nature that succumb to no man, and no force fiercer than a man’s appetite. A dish created for you with passion and love showcasing the humble mustard seed.
Starting with earth, where the mustard seed finds its home. Later, pummelled together with other secret spices from the earth’s bounty, creating something so intoxicating, it’s magical.
Add fire, the most entrancing element. Watch a single mustard seed dance on a hot iron skillet that is being brought to temperature. Then water, boiling in pots, watching the water pearls collect together, catching the allusive mustard seed. And lastly air, the aromas awaken your sense of smell, letting you know the mustard seeds have been lightly toasted.
Oh Calcutta’s interpretation on the Hariyali Mint & Mustard Chicken Tikka. A classic North Indian starter where chicken is flavoured with a fresh herbaceous rub of mint, coriander leaves, the mustard seeds and spices, producing this delicious aromatic appetizer for you to enjoy.

Heard Park is the location for a set of immersive, sculptural and light installations by ‘HYBYCOZO’, Stunning, enigmatic and immersive sculptures that are internally lit and create a surreal ambience, day and night, throughout the month of July.
Each Friday evening in July (5th, 12th, 19th and 26th, from 6pm-6.45pm, four otherworldly travellers will activate Heard Park and amplify the play of geometry, light and shadow created by the HYBYCOZO installation in a series of dance rituals dedicated to the four classical elements; Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The performers appear as mystical intergalactic vikings with large costume and prop pieces that draw inspiration from mystic symbolism, the vikings and the cosmos.
