Unfortunately unsightly tagging seems to be a growing issue throughout Auckland and New Zealand as a whole.
However, in a bid to decrease this the Parnell Business Association in conjunction with Chorus contacted various artists to see if they might be interested in painting a Chorus Cabinet that is centrally located in Parnell.
There was an overwhelming response to our expressions of interest and the winning artist was Paul Walsh. His artwork is based on a photo he took last summer of three silvereyes (aka wax-eyes) feeding from a pinecone feeder. He chose this image as they’re one of our most-loved native birds, and are found in suburban gardens across the country. Paul said he had been wanting to paint this photo on a box for a while, and though the location of the Chorus cabinet at 244 Parnell Road would be perfect. He went on to say that it ties in nicely with the surrounding greenery in this location, as well as the proximity to the Auckland Domain, which has a sizeable bird population.
Paul’s Chorus cabinet artwork is now available for all to view and enjoy at 244 Parnell Road.
There are plans in place for Chorus and the Parnell Business Association to continue with this initiative, so watch this space for our next new Parnell based artwork to appear.
