If you’re looking for quality weekend events in Auckland or would like to know what things to do in Auckland on weekends, the good news is there are lots of interesting things to do in Parnell. As one of Auckland’s premier suburbs, Parnell is well-known for its shopping and market scene, particularly the award-winning La Cigale French Market (voted Auckland’s Best Food Market by Metro Magazine for the last eight years) held every Saturday from 8am to 1.30pm and Sunday from 9am to 1.30pm. Then there’s the Parnell Farmers’ Market, which has been open, rain or shine, every Saturday from 8am to 12 noon for the past 10 years. Baker & Bloom was also introduced in October, as part of The Heard Park Mini-Market Series. Held every third Friday of each month from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. Baker & Bloom offers the areas finest bakers, pastry chefs and dessert specialists together with blooms of all sorts. And now the newest addition to the Parnell events scene is Paws in Parnell, Auckland’s first market designed for the four-legged shopper (and their human caregivers…).
Doggone! Paws in Parnell is the pet-perfect place to be in Auckland
A recent addition to the list of Parnell events, Paws in Parnell (happening in Heard Park on the first Sunday of each month, from 9am to 12 noon) is just the stop to add to your Sunday morning walk route with your ‘fur baby’, ‘precious pup’, ‘irascible hound’ or plain old ‘pavement special’.
Dogs love going places with their human companions, especially if it’s somewhere with the possibility of meeting other furry friends. And with around a dozen or more businesses and stalls offering New Zealand made doggy-centric products and services, Paws in Parnell is dog central in Auckland for, well, um dogs. But don’t worry, you won’t be left hanging around on a leash while your canine shops and catches up with friends – with coffee vendors in attendance, you’ll still be able to get your Sunday morning fix.
The market features the likes of:
• Bark Bag, offering customised boxes of New Zealand made treats and toys
• Daisy’s Doggy Deli, offering handmade treats, meaty birthday cakes and adventure walks
• Mashbone, who produce dog treats from Garage Project brewery’s spent mash byproduct and grass-fed beef
• Mr SoftTop, for doggie jumpers
• Snoop Inspired, for gourmet cupcakes
• Wolves of Wellington, for a range of fun, creative and unique products from around the globe for all aspiring ‘wolves’
The perfect place to get something special for your pooch’s Christmas stocking
So, if you’re looking for what’s on in Auckland that’s a bit different, make a date in your diary to head to Paws in Parnell, a special Parnell event for all dogs and dog-lovers that happens on the first Sunday of every month.
The next Paws in Parnell takes place on Sunday, 3 December – which is perfect timing for you to be able to find something special for your pooch’s Christmas stocking this year. Just make sure doggie dearest is properly distracted while you’re making your purchase, otherwise the cat will be out of the bag on their Christmas surprise.
