February is New Zealand’s Pride Month, a time to empower, celebrate, and serve our Takatāpui and Rainbow Communities through events, creativity, and advocacy.
There are multiple events happening throughout the month in Parnell.
Rainbow lights at Auckland Museum
Throughout February
Auckland Museum will once again be lighting up in rainbow colours during February. It’s a spectacular sight to see, so make sure you wander past in the evenings!
There will be some nights in February where the Museum will be lit up for Lunar New Year—keep an eye on the Museum light scheme schedule for details.
Rainbow Snapshots: Art/Photography Exhibition
Throughout February
Parnell Library
Parnell Library wants to paint the town rainbow this Pride Month! Send them your works of art/photography and they will print them off and display them for all to enjoy.
Artwork can be submitted anonymously or not, please let us know your preference. Email these to Parnell.library@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or flick them a message on Facebook.
Pride Beading Drop-In Days

There is nothing more camp than handmade friendship bracelets. Join our vibrant librarians and their trays of colourful beads this February. Take a relaxing hour out of your week and mindfully create a fun piece of jewellery to wear during pride and beyond.
Pride Family Fun Day

Auckland Museum
As part of Auckland Pride 2024, Auckland Museum presents Pride Family Fun Day! They warmly welcome LGBTTQIA+ families and their allies to a fun-filled day of craft activities and entertainment, including their popular drag queen storytime.
Add to their vibrant chalk pavement drawings as you enter the building into Te Ao Mārama South Atrium, which will be the base for crafts such as badgemaking, rock painting, and a giant colouring mural.
And just because you deserve it, they’ll be giving away sweet treats and spot prizes.
Pages of Pride: A Shared Reading Evening

Have you ever come across a passage of literature connected to pride that was so special you wanted to share it with others? Now you can! Find that piece of prose, poetry, nonfiction, or otherwise inspiring work and come along to the Shared Reading Evening at Parnell Library.
