They have a range of events for children and families of all ages to enjoy—it’s the perfect way to make the most of the summer break!

Your story starts here! The Waitematā Little Libraries are excited to announce their summer story writing competition! Your story can take any form, any theme, and can also be illustrated. Winners will receive some amazing prizes including book tokens, bowling vouchers and Hell Pizza vouchers! The prize categories are as follows:
- Best story Age Group 5-7
- Best story Age Group 8-12
- Best Illustrated Story Age Group 5-7
- Best Illustrated Story Age Group 8-12
Submissions open Monday 16 December and close Sunday 26 January. Prize winners will be notified once our team of children’s librarians have read and discussed all entries. Good luck, we can’t wait to read your stories!
Submit your story online via the registration form link, or in person at Parnell, Grey Lynn or Little Leys Libraries.

Come to the library and sign up for our summer reading programme Raumati Reads! There are incentives for completing the reading tracker and stickers for taking on the reading challenges!
We will also have a scavenger hunt and activity sheets to keep the whole family busy.

Do you have an idea in your head but not sure how to get it down onto paper? Come along to our story writing workshop where we’ll explore themes, character development, structure and artwork. Whether you see yourself as a writer, poet, graphic artist or a complete beginner, this workshop will offer lots of ideas and inspiration, and will provide a great springboard for those submitting a story to the Waitematā Kōrero Paki – Story Writing Competition! Suitable for ages 5-12.

As the summer holidays draw to a close, join us at the Sensory Garden in the Domain for stories, songs and games. Feel free to bring a picnic, a teddy bear, and have some fun under a shady tree. Suitable for ages 0-8.
