Once again the skills of Auckland’s best waiters were put to the test on Sunday in the annual Parnell Waiters Race.
Kicking off at 11.00am in Fraser Park Parnell, waiters from restaurants such as Gerome, Ostro, La Fourchette, Paris Butter, 46 & York and Cable Bay raced against each other in a series of activities up and down Parnell Road to see who would hold the coveted title of ‘best waiter in Auckland’ and take away the amazing first prize – A trip to London in May 2018 with an automatic entry into the National Waiters’ Race in Hyde Park!
After several gruelling heats and some very fine balancing skills – Alex Balchin from 46 & York was crowned this year’s winner (broken toe and all!).
Auckland celebrities were also given the chance to show off their ability to walk at speed while balancing two glasses, a bottle of water and tray in one hand. It was a close race between television personality Colin Mathura-Jeffree and Epsom MP David Seymour, however David came out the winner finishing the race by managing to keep all items on his tray.
The day was not only for the city’s best waiters as Fraser park Parnell was transformed into a hive of delicious food trucks. With spectators being spoilt for choice with the likes of Crepe Creations, Wise Boys, Double Dutch Fries and The Rolling Pin to name a few.
A great day out was had by all and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
