Each year, Viva releases their list of Top 50 Restaurants in Auckland. Judged by Jesse Mulligan and Kelly Gibney, this year’s list featured three iconic Parnell establishments, with one restaurant taking out the top spot as Supreme Winner.
Tala was revealed as the Supreme Winner, taking out the number one spot in this year’s list.
“Choosing a Supreme Winner usually takes hours of discussion and negotiation, but I will be honest and tell you that this year it only took a few seconds,” said Jesse Mulligan. “…In a world of grim realities, Tala is enchanting. There is nothing like it in the city, or the world.”
Henry says that to win the Supreme Award from Viva is a thrill – especially given that Tala has only just celebrated its second birthday. “There are so many fantastic restaurants in Auckland doing incredible things in so many different ways that to be recognised by Viva and voted Supreme Winner in the Top 50 is a real honour,” he says.
This long-standing Parnell institution has been a favourite of Jesse Mulligan for years, and has earned itself a spot on Viva’s Top 50 list.
“Though chefs and menus have changed over the years, it still feels like the same restaurant we fell in love with 10, 20 or perhaps 30 years ago: a buzzy dining room, a beautiful and romantic courtyard and a service team that creates a playful, sophisticated experience unlike anything in the city.”
