Last Monday, the name Te Ara Oranga – The Pathway of Life/Wellbeing was gifted to the Southern Pathway at a celebration event attended by the Mayor, councillors and other stakeholders. The pathway has been designed to provide a safe accessway for our manuhiri to travel to and from the Museum.
The new pathway provides a unique viewpoint of Pukekawa, and is planted with natives to signal the museum’s commitment to Te Taiao (the environment). The name Te Ara Oranga references the connection between the built landscape which adjoins it (Blind Foundation/Birthcare) and the natural landscape of native trees and birdlife of the area. It is hoped that the re-invigoration of the planting around the pathway will encourage more birds to rest here.
